In spirit of Halloween, I thought I'd share with all of you my Halloween costume for last night. It's a great last minute cheap costume, plus it's really easy to do!
When I say this is cheap and easy... really I mean it! All you need is:
And here we are at another Thursday night. Another great thing... I only have a half day tomorrow (yay!). So I can get the rest of my pirate costume finished (yes, there will be photos!). However, that costume isn't going to worn until next weekend for the pirate party I'm going to. So that leaves me in a conundrum for this weekend's costume.
But enough about me... time for some cheeeeeeeese... So today I was in a really good & goofy kind of mood and in honor of that... tonight is Richard Cheese night. If you don't know who Richard Cheese is, you need to know who he is... because he is Fa-bu-lous!!!
So as some of you know, if you read my blog, I have been trying to go "noo poo". And the first week i tried it, it was terrible! I've since learned that I made some mistakes. First of all, I was washing my hair every day. And with the no poo method, you're really only supposed to wash it once every few days. Also, I may have hard water which apparently wasn't really helping the situation and my hair turned to a very waxy texture. Very not pretty. Even my boyfriend was complaining and he never says anything about my hair!
So I gave my hair a few days with normal shampoo and conditioner, while doing some more research and came up with a new method for me. So now, I'm going to share that with you!
The other day my friend gave me a whole bunch of root vegetables. I love vegetables! And I knew right away that I wanted to make a soup out of them. Now, most recipes that involve root vegetables in a soup involve making a puree out of them (yuk!). I decided that wouldn't happen to them wonderful veggie. So I made up my own soup recipe. It turned out pretty good too!
Ingredients:
4 cloves of garlic minced
2 shallots chopped
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 carrots chopped
4 small turnips chopped
3 beets cubed
1 onion chopped
1 sweet potato cubed
1 regular potato cubed
5 cups broth (I used a veggie broth made out of Better than Bouillon)
I decided this morning, since it's Sunday, that I need to make something yummy for breakfast. So i turned to my favorite cookbook, the internet! And I found this lovely post by Bacon Time With The Hungry Hungry Hypo. After reading through that post, I decided I could make this as well, just with more bacon, more cheese, and more eggs. Simple & tasty? Yes please!
Ingredients:
1 can of croissants (8 count)
6 Large Eggs
A crap ton of shredded cheese. You can use whatever kinda of cheese you want. I used a 2 year old cheddar per the request of my boyfriend.
Bacon, bacon, and more bacon. You can't put a limit on bacon. I used a package of precooked bacon so I wouldn't need to cook that too.
I found this super cute hair pin online at McLaughlin Designs the other day, and lucky me... there was a tutorial attached to it! It's really simple to do.
You'll need:
a button (or a few)
a piece of felt in the same shape & size of the button
My latest all natural experiment is making my own deodorant. I found this recipe while dinking around on Pintrest a few weeks ago and decided to give it a shot. I've been wearing my homemade deodorant all day so far, and guess what... I'm still dry under the arms and I still smell fresh! Well, actually I smell kinda like coconuts and oranges which is still yummy! I found the cute ceramic jar at St. Vincent DePaul (my favorite thrift store). I wanted something that had a screw on lid but looked nice sitting on a counter.
Anyways... on to the recipe so you all can make your own! Now, I didn't come up with this recipe. But you can check out the original creator of it at How About Orange.
So I don't work tomorrow! And thus there really isn't a point to an unwind since it really doesn't matter when I go to bed. Also, as I started writing this I have had 666 visitors to my page. Spooky.... Some updates... I am still washing my face with the oil cleanser and LOVE it. I'm even getting complemented on my skin lately. I never, ever, have been complemented on that. I decided after more research and finding a helpful forum, to retry the "no poo" thing. That's no shampoo, and yes, I still poo. I found out that I was washing my hair to much, which was giving my hair a really waxy feel. So I retried it yesterday. I switched up my recipe too, which I'll share in a week if it works. I'm on day 2 now. I washed my hair yesterday and just rinsed it with water today. I have to say, I'm a bit happier with the results so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works.
But enough about all that. Time for some tunes! Tonight I'm going to showcase 3 videos by an artist named Gotye. I'm completely in love with his music. Here, this is the song that got me HOOKED. I give you, Somebody That I Used To Know:
I made these a while ago. I love them! I do wish I would of done the wrist cuff a tad longer, but they suit their purpose. I knitted them with a rather cheap wool, so i would recommend using a higher quality yarn so they don't pill as bad as mine do. Now, I don't make my own patterns. I'm not that skilled yet. So I bring you this pattern from Carissa Knits!
So I have the house to myself tonight and I'm doing it up right. I've candles going, archer on tv, some vino and then something wonderful baking in the oven. I wish I could take the credit for this recipe, but I can't because Plain Chicken figured it out first!
Ummm YUMMY! This is a super simple recipe and cheap recipe at that. It's good for slumber parties, game day, parties, or when you are home alone drinking wine & playing video games.
What a beautiful fall day for some oven roasted squash. This is my favorite way to eat squash. This is a super yummy and super simple recipe to make. People who don't like squash tend to actually like this recipe. Enjoy!
Yup, that's right, Wednesday Night Unwind! I have to work a day shift tomorrow so I have enough time to get off of work & get ready to go see...
PRIMUS!!!!!
I'm soooooooo pumped! But before I go off on a rant about how great Primus is, let's give you all some updates on some of my other projects.
First up I've been trying some natural ways to wash my hair & face. I've been doing the no poo thing almost a week, and guess what... I HATE IT... My hair has never felt more disgusting. I think my next thing to try with my hair will be some homemade herbal shampoo... but I'm done with the baking soda and the apple cider vinegar. Major props to those of you that have figured out the trick to not make your hair feel like wax, but I just can't live with it.
On the other hand though I've been washing my face everyday with the oil washing method and I must say that I do LOVE IT!!! :) Well at least something good came out of the first trials! I will be trying more natural remedies, but first... I need to wash my hair!

Now onto tonight's music. And you probably guessed what band I'm showcasing tonight... PRIMUS!
First lets start out with a song I really hope the play tomorrow night. Over The Electric Grapevine
I am a HUGE gamer. I love video games. Normally I just play RPG's like Final Fantasy, Oblivion (soon to be Skyrim), Fallout, ect. Or I get sucked into simple & fun puzzle like games like Little Big Planet or any Lego game ever created. But last night my friend calls me up (she has the Playstation Move) and asks if I want to come over and Zumba. I've only ever heard of Zumba from some of my friend's Facebook posts which normally go "I felt ridiculous the whole time but, OMG I LOVE IT". So I said sure, what the hell. I'm always up for trying new things.
Now that I gave this hat to it's intended owner, I can post it up on here and share the pattern to a super quick knit for a nice fall/winter hat. This pattern was designed by Melissa "Missa" Hills of kpixie.com. It is a free pattern so again, I can share it with you!
Here we are at another Thursday. Friday is just a dream away! As always, I've got another exciting weekend planned. I've got one of my friend's 30th birthday party to go! And at some point I really hope to finish sewing my pirate costume. All I have left to do is my shirt and I'm totally procrastinating on it.
Also, today I tried 3 different home beauty product recipes. I made my own baking soda shampoo & apple cider vinegar conditioner. Then I decided to also try washing my face with oil. The shampoo and conditioner left my hair a tad greasy after day 1 (I'm told this is normal for the first 2 weeks). The oil thing BLEW MY MIND AWAY!!!! My skin is soooooooo soft. and my pores on my nose that I can NEVER get clean... practically spotless! I'll keep you updated on how my little experiment is going after a week goes by.
Now on to tonight's music selection! I thought I'd introduce one of my latest musical obsessions as of late. The Devil Makes Three! The are a 3 person acoustic bluegrass band. I absolutly LOVE their lyrics and the sound of them. Just push play and you'll understand!
I've been thinking about going chemical free for a while now, and as of late I have actually been researching it! I've found ways to make your own deodorant, going shampoo & conditioner free, natural cleaning products, homemade face cleansers, even how to make you own hair spray. So I'm going to share all of that with you today!
First up, how to make your own cleaners. I've found so many recipes and great ideas. I thought I'd share a few of my favorites, but give you some good links to where I got the recipes as well!
I don't know how many of you are wine drinkers, but I am. In fact, let's be honest, I love wine! Since I drink so much of it, I'm trying to find ways to reuse the bottles and the corks. Let's start with the cork!
Did you know there is something out there called a cork tree? I had no idea! It's actually called the Cork Oak Tree. And people strip the bark off the trees to make corks. I know what you're thinking (OMG! The poor tree! I'm never drinking wine again!) but let me tell you this interesting fact: When the bark is harvested from the Cork Oak properly, the bark grows back with no harm done to the tree. Thus making it a renewable sustainable resource. In fact it's all harvested by hand!
Time for some projects with c
orks don't you think?
